How can mediation help?
Same-sex couples can now have their relationships legally recognised in a civil partnership. A civil partnership gives you the same rights as a married couple should your relationship come to an end.
Same-sex couples have the same protection rights against domestic violence as heterosexual couples.
A civil partnership is ended through a dissolution which like a divorce is carried out through a court.
Mediation can be an effective way to work through issues. It is cost effective and speedy. Mediation will assist you to reach an agreement on financial matters, dealing with assets / property and parenting if this is required.
Agreements reached through mediation are documented as a “Memorandum of Understanding”, which can then be made legally binding as a "consent order" by a solicitor for your dissolution proceedings.
